Get a consultation on Liposuction nowDespite a consistent exercise regimen and dietary changes, certain pockets of fat may remain stubborn and fail to disappear completely. These pockets of fat can be a source of dissatisfaction for many people, especially when they affect the appearance of specific body areas. In such cases, liposuction can be a promising solution. This cosmetic surgical procedure involves the targeted removal of fat tissue from specific areas of the body to improve body contours.
However, the decision to undergo liposuction should be carefully considered and ideally made after a detailed consultation with an experienced specialist. They can explain the possibilities and limitations of the procedure in detail and address your individual needs. It is important to have realistic expectations regarding the outcome and to understand that liposuction is not a method for weight loss, but rather a way to optimize body shape.
Modern liposuction techniques are generally safe; however, you should inform yourself in advance about potential risks and the healing process. Comprehensive pre- and post-operative care is crucial for achieving optimal results and the desired body contour. Overall, liposuction can help you feel more comfortable in your body and boost your self-confidence when exercise and diet alone are not enough to reduce stubborn pockets of fat.

The amount of fat that can be removed depends on the thickness of the fat layer and the condition and elasticity of the skin. In cases of very thick fat layers, such as with lipedema, two or more liposuction procedures may be necessary at intervals of three months.
A consultation at the clinic is required prior to treatment. During this consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the available treatment options and the procedure itself. In particular, the various liposuction techniques—such as the tumescent technique, water-jet-assisted liposuction (WAL technique), and the Vaser technique—will be explained. Dr. Münzberg will provide you with a well-founded and realistic assessment of the expected results, carefully discussing all your concerns and expectations. This personal consultation is designed to give you clarity and confidence before you make a decision.
We would also be happy to show you before-and-after photos of liposuction procedures performed at our clinic.
If you have decided to undergo liposuction with us, we appreciate your trust. To minimize risks and side effects as much as possible, we ask that you follow these instructions. Please refrain from taking blood-thinning medications, as well as nicotine and alcohol, for two weeks prior to the procedure. Two days before the treatment, you should not use oil-based bath products such as shower gels or body lotions on the treatment area.

In general, liposuction is considered a standardized and safe procedure, especially when performed by an experienced physician such as Dr. Münzberg. Today, there are various techniques for removing fat to help the body achieve a well-proportioned shape. The experience of the treating physician is crucial for safe and effective liposuction.
The classic surgical technique for liposuction is the so-called tumescent technique. In this procedure, a fluid containing various additives is injected into the area to be treated. These additives serve to loosen the fatty tissue, constrict blood vessels, prevent bruising, and minimize postoperative swelling following liposuction.
Another method is the WAL technique. In this procedure, the tumescent solution is injected into the fatty tissue using a water jet, and the loosened fat/fat cells are simultaneously suctioned out. This allows you to see the results immediately. After the surgery, swelling occurs in the treated areas. However, this is harmless.
Liposuction can be performed under either local anesthesia or general anesthesia. For smaller areas, local anesthesia is entirely sufficient. Specialist Dr. Münzberg will discuss the choice of anesthesia with you on an individual basis. Liposuction on multiple body areas simultaneously is performed exclusively under general anesthesia.
Very thin cannulas with a diameter of 1 to 3 mm are typically used for liposuction. For larger liposuction procedures on the abdomen, a subsequent tummy tuck is recommended. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Münzberg at his practice for more detailed information, or click here.
The procedure takes approximately 1 to 4 hours, depending on the treatment area.
To achieve the best possible results, you must wear custom-made compression garments over the treated area for 6 weeks following the procedure. Postoperative pain is nothing to worry about and is similar to muscle soreness. This pain usually subsides after two to three days.
Gentle lymphatic drainage can help improve the results of liposuction.
However, during the first two weeks, you should refrain from physically strenuous activities such as sports and, in particular, avoid lifting heavy objects.
Lipedema is a pathological disorder of fat distribution that causes a feeling of tightness and pain in the affected areas. This condition most commonly affects women’s legs and buttocks. The reason why fat accumulates so persistently in these areas has not yet been determined.
During liposuction for lipedema, all of the fat must be removed. Complete removal of the fat cells is necessary to prevent the pathological fat cells from recurring.

Since liposuction can be performed on different areas of the body and to varying degrees, it is not possible to provide a flat rate. Other factors include the type of anesthesia, the complexity of the procedure, and any subsequent hospital stay.

Liposuction is recommended when fat deposits in the tissue cannot be reduced even through intensive exercise or targeted dietary changes. Dr. Münzberg would like to reiterate at this point that liposuction is a method for improving body contour. It is not a “convenient” way to lose weight!
Dr. Münzberg, a board-certified specialist, uses the so-called tumescent technique for liposuction. In this procedure, a special fluid is first injected into the target areas. During the liposuction itself, Dr. Münzberg uses very thin cannulas (1 to 3 mm) to remove the fat deposits. Liposuction can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. After the procedure, the patient puts on a custom-made compression garment, which should be worn for 6 weeks.
Every surgical procedure carries risks, but liposuction is generally considered to be very low-risk. The very rare risks associated with liposuction include infections, post-operative bleeding, impaired wound healing, dimpling, rippling, and hematomas. In addition, permanent skin discoloration, scar contractures, and wide, raised, and visible scars may occur.
With the amendments to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products that took effect in October 2012, the ban on comparative “before-and-after” images was somewhat “relaxed” (→ see the ruling of the Higher Regional Court of Celle; Case No. 13 U 160/12). The ban on before-and-after images now applies only to the visual depiction of abusive, repulsive, or misleading images of changes to the human body resulting from diseases or injuries. Due to this rather broadly interpretable wording (when is a visual representation abusive, repulsive, or misleading?), specialist Dr. Münzberg continues to refrain from using before-and-after images on his website. However, you can view images of the treatment results of liposuction on-site in the clinic’s photo archive.
Dr. Münzberg’s clinic also adheres to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products when it comes to disclosing the prices of surgical procedures, as this law prohibits misleading advertising. Under the law, it could appear as though the outcome of a surgical procedure is for sale and that success is guaranteed. For this reason, the website does not list the costs of liposuction.
You can find out the price range for liposuction by email, by phone, or in a personal consultation with Dr. Münzberg at the clinic.
If there is a medical indication, the costs of liposuction surgery are covered by health insurance. For this, written confirmation from the health insurance provider must be provided.
