Schedule a consultation for a Thigh Lift todayThe natural aging process or significant weight loss causes our skin to sag. Starting as early as age 25, the body reduces collagen production. Yet this protein—which, along with hyaluronic acid, is responsible for our skin’s firmness and elasticity—is essential. Especially on the thighs, stretch marks are often visible alongside sagging skin; these are caused by strain on the skin, such as rapid swelling and subsiding. To stop sagging and restore firm tissue, we recommend exercise in addition to a balanced and healthy diet. Exercises that activate the thigh muscles are particularly important.
In addition, a thigh lift may be necessary if significant excess skin remains following liposuction in cases of lidoedema.
If exercise does not yield results, a thigh lift can provide satisfactory outcomes. Please note: A thigh lift is never a quick fix or a shortcut to achieving slim, toned legs quickly and effortlessly.
After significant weight loss, a lift is often recommended to remove excess skin and achieve a firm silhouette. Liposuction may also be an option for you. Stubborn fat deposits can be removed through a plastic-surgical procedure. You can find more information on these topics here:
Before undergoing a thigh lift, a personal consultation with the treating specialist, Dr. Münzberg, is required. During this consultation, you will receive all the important information about the thigh lift and will have the opportunity to discuss your expectations and wishes with Dr. Münzberg. Dr. Münzberg will explain the options available through plastic surgery and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
If you have decided to undergo a thigh lift and have already scheduled a surgery date, it is important that you pay attention to the following before the procedure: To achieve optimal surgical results, it is important that you avoid alcohol, nicotine, and blood-thinning medications such as aspirin for two weeks prior to the procedure. If you rely on medication, please inform Dr. Münzberg of this before the procedure. One week before the procedure, you should refrain from applying lotion to your skin, especially on your thighs.
Before the thigh lift, the exact course of the incision is marked at the specialized clinic. This should generally be located above the groin area. This ensures that the scars are not visible when wearing a bikini or swim trunks. The scars then run into the gluteal crease and are concealed by it. An intradermal suture is particularly important for a barely visible scar. In some cases, a vertical suture from the groin to the knee on the inner thigh is also necessary.
Furthermore, after removing the sagging skin following a thigh lift, the stable connective tissue layers (fascia) must be sutured back together or secured to provide stability. This prevents the tissue from sagging again after a short time. (For this reason, the connective tissue layers (fascia) are attached directly to the inguinal ligament and the bony part of the pubic bone.) At the end of the thigh lift, drains are inserted to allow wound fluid to drain. Afterward, a custom-made compression garment must be worn for 6 weeks.
The thigh lift is performed on an inpatient basis at the private clinic under general anesthesia. The hospital stay lasts 2 to 3 days.
The surgery takes 3–4 hours, depending on the extent of the procedure.

To prevent infections, you will be given a course of antibiotics as a precaution. Since you will be cared for by our trained and compassionate staff, you can recover from the procedure in peace and quiet at our practice/clinic. Here, Dr. Münzberg can change your dressings and monitor wound healing during the first few days. After about two weeks, Dr. Münzberg will remove the stitches.
For the first four weeks after the operation, you should take it easy and avoid physically strenuous activities such as sports. You should also avoid full baths, tanning beds, and saunas.
To optimize the results and achieve the appearance of slimmer legs, a thigh lift alone is usually not sufficient. Women who suffer from so-called “saddlebags”—where fat accumulates particularly stubbornly around the thighs—often opt for a combined procedure. Dr. Münzberg will be happy to discuss the possibility of additional liposuction with you during your consultation.
The cost of the surgery depends on various factors, so it is not possible to provide a general estimate. It is unlikely that health insurance will cover all or part of the cost, as a thigh lift is a cosmetic procedure that is not medically necessary.
