Many women desire to have beautiful breasts, as they are considered a symbol of femininity. Just as women are different, so are their breasts. Every woman is unique, and so are her breasts—some are larger, some are smaller. Many women are dissatisfied with the size of their breasts. They are too large, too small, or sagging. That is why it is a great relief for many women when they decide to have breast augmentation, reduction, or lifting surgery. But volume is not always the problem. Unfortunately, some breasts do not develop as they should during puberty. Women affected by breast deformities often feel uncomfortable and restricted in their everyday lives, which is very understandable. An experienced specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery such as Dr. Münzberg can use surgery to reshape the breasts to the desired form.
When breast development deviates from the norm, we refer to this as a malformation. The most common breast anomaly is the so-called tubular breast, also known colloquially as bud breast. This is a congenital developmental disorder in which the ingrowth and elongation of the ducts unfortunately failed to occur during the fetal period, i.e., early childhood development in the womb.
During puberty, the growth of the breast leads to visible and proper development, which is completely normal. Common symptoms include a small breast base and a high breast fold. In most cases, this is accompanied by a very small breast (hypoplastic breast) with a very large areola (areola complex). Asymmetry or a tubular shape may also occur.
After pregnancy or due to illness, the female breast may change and not return to its previous shape. Correction is only possible through surgical intervention, for example, in the form of breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction.
There are four types of breast malformations. The breast is divided into four parts (quadrants), like a cake:
- Type 1 shows the absence of the medial (towards the center) lower (footward) quadrants.
- Type 2 shows the absence of both lower quadrants. However, the nipple is not pointing downward.
- Type 3 is characterized by a significant lack of mammary gland tissue in the two lower quadrants, and the nipple is pointing downward.
- Type 4 is characterized by a reduction in all four quadrants of the breast, with the nipple protruding forward like a bud.
We would like to inform you that surgical correction of breast deformities at Dr. Münzberg's clinic depends on various factors. These include the stage, severity, and type of deformity.
In most cases, as with classic breast augmentation, a breast implant is used to build up the breast and the nipple/areola (nipple-areola complex) is corrected. The areola is reduced in size and adjusted to match the opposite side. Often, the healthy breast is also adjusted and excess skin is removed. Since this skin is usually lower or hangs down, this is a very good solution (first to third degree ptosis). In most cases, the larger side is reduced in size and the smaller breast is enlarged and lifted with implants to create a harmonious overall appearance.
Breast Reduction Breast augmentation Breast lift
The second most common form of breast malformation is known as breast asymmetry. This is when one breast is significantly larger than the other. Most women have asymmetrical breasts, i.e., one breast is larger than the other. This is completely normal and no cause for concern. In most cases, however, the asymmetry is not very pronounced.
This developmental disorder often occurs during puberty in girls, which is completely normal. Correction should not be performed before the age of 18 or 19, but of course this is entirely up to you. Only after breast development is complete can a sensible corrective operation be performed by the experienced specialist Dr. Münzberg. In most cases, the larger side is reduced in size and the smaller side is lifted (see breast reduction, breast augmentation, and breast lift). If desired, the smaller side can also be adjusted to match the larger side with an implant.
We would like to invite you to attend a medical examination during your consultation at the Clinic for Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery so that Dr. Münzberg can make a diagnosis. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the treatment and tell us your personal ideas about your desired breasts. We are here for you and happy to listen to you. Dr. Münzberg will determine the ideal surgical method or technique for you and let you know what is feasible in your case. This way, you can be sure that you are in good hands. Of course, we will also inform you about the possible risks and side effects of breast surgery so that you are well informed and have nothing to worry about.
The duration of the surgery depends on how extensive it will be. The surgery usually takes between one and three hours.
We recommend that you wear a compression bra/support bra for three months to stabilize the results. This will be put on immediately after the operation so that you feel comfortable and secure right from the start. This relieves pressure on the breast, reduces swelling, and promotes wound healing. As an experienced aesthetic surgeon, Dr. Münzberg does not use self-dissolving sutures for better wound healing, as these can affect the final result. The sutures are then removed after about two weeks. We then recommend that you treat the scars with a silicone gel or plaster for at least eight weeks so that they heal as finely and inconspicuously as possible.
We also recommend that you refrain from sunbathing and saunas for the first six to twelve weeks. You should also wait until after the recovery period before resuming sports activities. We recommend that you wear a snug-fitting and comfortable sports bra when exercising so that healing is not impaired.
After six months, you can admire the final result.
If there is a medical indication for breast deformity, health insurance companies currently often cover the costs of correction. Dr. Münzberg, your specialist in plastic and aesthetic surgery, can perform the necessary examination in his practice following the consultation.
Specialist Dr. Münzberg will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the procedure and any necessary implants during a personal consultation at his clinic. On request, he will also be happy to show you before and after pictures of procedures performed at our clinic so that you can get a better idea of what to expect.
We would be delighted if you made an appointment with us using the contact form. You are also welcome to contact us by phone or email.
