Recall of Allergan Breast Implants

- Natrelle Silicone Filled
- Natrelle 410 Highly Cohesive Anatomically Shaped Silicone-Filled
Allergan is recalling all breast implants in the BIOCELL series worldwide with immediate effect due to a potential cancer risk (anaplastic large cell lymphoma). Furthermore, in my opinion and based on the patients I have examined, there is an increased incidence of capsular contracture and implant ruptures/tears.
Public and private health insurance plans typically cover 50% of the cost of the surgery. Reimbursement is possible if the practice or the clinic/hospital is approved by the insurance provider.
I, Dr. Münzberg, am approved by health insurance providers and can therefore submit an application or expert opinion to the health insurance company on your behalf, so that 50% of the costs for removing the capsule and the implant are covered by the health insurance company. If you wish to have new implants, you will need to cover the costs yourself.
If the health insurance company initially covered the full cost of the initial implant placement because there was a medical indication, it must also pay the total cost of removing the capsule and the implant. This includes the cost of the new implants.
In Germany and the United States, the voluntary recall had already begun by the end of 2018.
Allergan acquired the company McGahn and then manufactured the same implants, among others, under the Allergan brand name. Initially, the remaining McGahn implants were even sold under the Allergan brand name.
